Retirement Process

Below we have listed the steps in the retirement process to help ease the burden of how confusing it may feel for some individuals.  Listed is a step by step process to help you when you are getting closer to retirement age.  Please call the Hall with any questions!  We can assist you throughout the process if needed.  We are here to help!

Step by step process to retire from all 3 pensions:

--Make a decision regarding a future retirement date.

--Keep in mind it will takes 60-90 days to process each claim 

--Call the Hall to request the applications to be emailed to you, printed and mailed to your home or picked up.  You will then fill out all applications at home and will call the Hall to make an appointment for them to be reviewed before submission.

 ~Here are the steps below if you would like to submit the applications without total assistance from the Hall.

Local 141 Profit Sharing:  

  1. Call Sarah Browningat American Benefit Corporation. Her phone number is: (304) 525-0331, Ext. 301
  1. Give Sarah your retirement date.  Sarah will send you the retirement application to your home. 
    **This is not an easy application to read or interpret.  If you have problems with the jargon, call Sarah or speak with Heather at the hall.
  1. Gather your documentation, complete the application and copy all paperwork for yourself. If needed, bring the paperwork to the Hall and we will copy it for you and place a copy in your file.  *Remember the 60 to 90 days needed for processing.

Pension Benefit Fund (PBF) - International

Based on the number of years paying dues.  $4.50/year 

If you do not have a printer, call the Hall and Heather will print out the application for you. We will then set up an appt for a future date to review the entire application.

 To print the application at home:

  1. Go to the Home page of www.ibew.orgYou can simply CLICK on this link to go to the website.
  2. Click on Local Connections then click on Departments.
  3. Click on Pension and Reciprocity
  4. Scroll down the page, click "Pension Calculations, Applications and Instructions"
  5. Enter your Card # and last 4 of SS# then click Login
  6. Checkmark with or without Spousal calculations, add spouse's birthdate then click "calculate"
  7. Scroll down to the word "Apply" in purple and pick the appropriate one that suits your age
  8. Click "Yes" and open PDF to print at home

This is an easy and clear application. You should have no problems answering the questions or finding your documentation.  Once it is completed call Heather to set up an appointment for review. It will then need to be read at the closest Union Meeting and signed by the Business Manager.

We will email your application directly to the International Office the following Monday after the Union Meeting.

A copy will be maintained in the file.

NEBF

Based on years of service.   $32.00/year

*This will generally take 8 weeks to receive notice from their office so please be patient print that out and fax to: (301)869-4322

The NEBF gives out no personal information over the phone.   They will send you a letter in the mail.

*If you already have registered yourself and have an NEBF user name & password then go to "Documents" then click on "Benefit Estimate" and click "submit" and it will instantly be in your "Documents" folder to view named "Online Estimate".  This will be the same infomation but will be recieved sooner than mailing it and waiting.

  1. Click on NEBFin blueink
  2. Across the top of the page in redink, click on "Plan Documents and Forms"
  3. Scroll down to "Forms" "Participant" (4th on the left) and you will find "NEBF Participant Pension Application"
  4. Print your application  
  5. If you want to read the NEBF booklet go back to the previous page and click on "NEBF Summary Plan Description". You can reference this guide online or print the summary guide.  This guide is 46 pages long.  You can also call the Hall for a copy if you can not print it at home.  This Summary Plan Description booklet is not necessary to process your application but if you have questions it is a good resource.
  6. Federal laws governing NEBF allow 90 days to process an application for a Retirement Benefit and 45 days to process an application for a Disability Benefit.
