Retirement Process

Below we have listed the steps in the retirmenet process to help ease the burden of how confusing it may feel for some individuals.  Listed is a step by step process to help you when you are getting closer to retirement age.  Please call the Hall with any questions!  We can assist you throughout the process if needed.  We are here to help!

 

 

Retirement Procedures for the Computer Savvy

1. Make a decision regarding a future retirement date.

2. Keep in mind it will takes 60-90 days to process each claim and the 4th District works with approximately 20 + Local Unions.

 

Local 141 Pension:  

3. Call Sarah Browning at American Benefit Corporation. Her phone number is:

4. Give Sarah your retirement date.  Sarah will send you the retirement application to your home. Ask her to mark only those areas you need to fill out.

**This is not an easy application to read or interpret.  If you have problems with the jargon, call Sarah or speak with Cathleen at the hall.

5. Gather your documentation, complete the application and copy/save all paperwork for yourself. If needed, bring the paperwork to the Hall and we will copy it for you.  Remember the 60 to 90 days needed for processing.

Mail the application.

If you do not have a printer, come to the Hall and Cathleen will print out the application for you. We will review the application and needed documentation.

 

For those who wish to attempt the application on their own:

1. Go to the Home page of www.ibew.org  You can simply CLICK on this link to go to the website.

2. Click on Local Connections then click on Departments.

3. Click on Pension and Reciprocity

4. Scroll down the page click Pension Application

This is an easy and clear application. You should have no problems answering the questions or finding your documentation.  

Make a copy for yourself and mail to :

NEBF

Based on years of covered employment

You can call the NEBF and ask how much you will be receiving. You can double check your years of covered employment.

The NEBF gives out no personal information over the phone.   They will send you a letter in the mail. You may come into the office and we will print you the application or you can go to the website:

1. Click on NEBF in blue ink

2. Across the top of the page in red ink, click on "Plan Documents and Forms"

3. Scroll down to "Forms" "Participant" (4th on the left) and you will find "NEBF Participant Pension Application"

4. Print your application  

5. Go back to the previous page and click on "NEBF Summary Plan Description". You can reference this guide online or print the summary guide.  This guide is 50 pages long!  You can also call the Hall for a copy if you can not print it at home.

6. Remember the 60 to 90 day rule.
