Today signed York PA local 229, Shamokin PA local 607, Wilkes Barre PA local 163, Scranton PA local 81, Harriman NY local 363 and Allentown PA local 375. York, Shamokin, Harriman, and Allentown all look very promising. Started at York hall 7 AM, Allentown was last at about 4:15 Drove back roads from York to Shamokin north of Harrisburg. From Harriman to Allentown construction project on I-78 just west of junction with US 22 west. Was able to get on US 22 west only losing about 15 minutes. US 22 is a rolling parking lot from east side of Bethlehem to west side of Allentown in middle of afternoon. From York all the way through to Allentown drove 5 - 10 MPH over speed limit. Did not spend much time at any hall. On my way home from Allentown construction project at I-81 and I-83 junction, Traffic was at a stand still so I was able to get on US 22W, went out of my way but only lost less than 1/2 hour if no construction ~Rick Yahn

YOU CAN HELP BRING THE ETHANE CRACKER TO BELMONT COUNTY
Doug and I attended the EPA public hearing tonight. The topic was wastewater discharge, air discharge will be addressed at a later date. There were five speakers in favor of the plant, and one with concerns about discharge close to her property, but she did not oppose plant construction.
Email comments submitted by December 22 will be given the same weight as the comments heard tonight. Please email your support for the plant construction and operation to the EPA. Use one or more of these arguments, or one of your own:
1. PTT's decision to enter a project labor agreement with the local building trades guarantees the highest level of craftsmanship and safety.
2. Talk about the economic boost to the entire region brought by five to six thousand construction jobs and the permanent plant jobs.
3. Tell them that the newest technology that the plant will use, and the constant monitoring that will occur, will ensure water safety.
The Moundsville Power project has shown us how important the permit process is. The awarding of EPA permits will have a huge impact on PTT's decision to build or not.
Please share this post, and send your comments to firstname.lastname@example.org
All comments are welcome and needed, but if you are a Belmont County resident, be sure to mention it in your email.

Meeting was mostly a meet and greet:
I had a dinner meeting with Fluor Constructors and other principals of the cracker project tonight, along with other craft Business Managers and agents with jurisdiction in Belmont County. Fluor is still competing against Bechtel for the contract to build the plant. Some of their statements give a clue to the scope and breadth of this massive project. They need to buy property to use as parking lots, ideally within ten minutes of the site, big enough to hold six thousand cars. They also seek a lay-down yard, to hold material and equipment not yet installed. This would need to be at least thirty, but ideally fifty acres in size. This would not have to be as close if it is on the river, as they would employ a barge and tow boat.
A similar project in Indiana peaked out at 14,000 construction workers, and that number does not include engineers, safety crews, quality control, etc. For perspective, this equates to roughly 2520 electricians (18%), which is typical. I currently have 75 local brothers and sisters seeking employment, and about 300 out of town folks, leaving a gap of 2145.
Although site preparation would begin much sooner, full blown construction would begin in 2019. Here is the part that most do not realize. Spin off job numbers will be enormous. Concrete batch plants, truck terminals, end product user manufacturing facilities, delivery pipeline, retail businesses, etc, would all need to be built and will create jobs. The flow of people back to our valley will be tremendous.
P.S. Fluor believes the project will get the green light. ~Tom Conner
